Joseph Getsinger
Joseph was born in Camden, New
Jersey in 1948. He recalls his earliest stirring for art as early as the fourth
grade where he did his first wildlife watercolor. He continued to pursue his
love for art through to senior high school prompted by his art teacher Miss
Ethyl Patterson. Joseph formalized his art education under the tutelage of noted
local artist, George Cameron Vail of Audubon, N.J.
Getsinger began to exhibit his work at local art shows which
evolved into several well received one man art shows along the East Coast. In
the early 1970's a Trenton, New Jersey art publisher, Charles Lombardo, took an
interest in Getsinger's art, which evolved into the creation and publishing of
his first limited edition etching prints.
Lombardo within a few years had Joseph creating images for
his first true lithographs which included "Les Chevaux" and
"Center Ring" which were well accepted by the public. This artist has
shown great admiration for the works of the Wyeths of Chad's Ford, Pennsylvania,
yet has demonstrated his own versatility by being the first artist in the
country to do a series of miniature limited edition prints which has found their
way into many collector's dollhouse. Fifty-two separate original acrylic
paintings are combined in this unique series. This artist has also created a
series of firefighter prints since 1982 when he started utilizing his art to aid
burn victims. Since that time he has become one of the most sought after artists
in that field.
Getsinger's popularity and recognition is evidenced by his
representation in fine galleries and private collections across the country. His
works, "Center Ring" and the "Tearing Clown" are in the
collection of Red Skelton. His art has been utilized by such companies as
"The Travelers" who produced a holiday card from an adaptation of his
acrylic painting of the Barclay Farmstead Museum of Cherry Hill, N.J. titled,
"Homestead" which is in the National Historic Registry. Once
Presidential Candidate Ross Perot wrote the artist and complimented him on his
creation of "Young American". Since the early 1980's the artist and
his works have been listed in the Official Price Guide to Collector Prints and
Wildlife Art News, Yearbook of International Wildlife Artists. He has over 180
edition prints published since 1974.
Joseph, his wife Ginny reside in a Victorian house in Gloucester County, New
Jersey with their four children which are an inspiration for his art.
